30 Day Challenge: Your Views on Mainstream Music & Eating in the Dogpatch (Hard Knox Cafe/Mr. & Mrs. Miscellaneous)
No day is complete without some music and I really just love songs that sound good and move me somehow, regardless if they are mainstream or not.
I keep listening to Adele lately…Here’s one of my favorites!
Also, since I am fully aware that my 30DC answer today was lame, I’ve added my fun filled adventure today in the Dogpatch!
So… This weekend, we were supposed to go camping. An hour away, somewhere in Sonoma, with the hubby’s friends. The plans got cancelled. (Yay!) Instead, we headed into the city and trekked around the Dogpatch of San Francisco. We had lunch at Hard Knox Cafe. Which has pretty incredible fried chicken and the place had a really adorable and friendly staff. My favorite were the corn muffins. They were warm, fluffy, fresh, and everything a corn muffin should be. And at $11 for three pieces of chicken, collard greens, and mac&cheese, it was soooo worth the uncertain travel in uncharted territories.
I thought that I was completely full to the brim, which I was, but decided to ignore it and be completely gluttonous when I saw that Mr. & Mrs. Miscellaneous Ice Cream was right across the street. A very hip and happening ice cream joint that serves funky flavors like English Black Tea, Burnt Sugar, Chickory Coffee, Lemon Verbena, and more. I tried a few flavors (they hand out sample flavors in these lovely silver spoons) but decided to go for the Rocky Road when the guy mentioned that everything they had was created on the premises including the marshmallows in the ice cream…
Yum And yum they were… and extra fatty I became. Soooo good. Fried chicken. Beer. Ice cream. I’ve probably gained like a million pounds but I don’t care. Undeniably, being the kind of girly-girl I am, I much prefer it over getting eaten alive by bugs. Not to completely rule out the whole camping thing. Which I really wouldn’t mind. But… I mean, come on, I’m a city girl through and through.
Check them out:
Love,
Mira
P.S. Here’s a picture of me, in full-on, hair-uncombed, no make-up, lazy Saturday loveliness.(Haha!)… Happy as a clam and about to demolish one of the most scrumptious Rocky Road ice creams ever. It was gone in 60 seconds.

This Weekend is the Vintage Fashion Expo in San Francisco
Vintage clothes are like a drug to me. When I head out to shop, I don’t head towards boutiques or high-end designers first, I head to the nearest thrift shop, consignment store, or Goodwill. Why? Not just because buying used goods helps alleviate pollution on the environment (which is a fantastic reason all in itself) but also because there is something utterly addictive and euphoric about finding that rare, one-of-a-kind garment at a ridiculously dirt cheap price. Like searching for a diamond in the rough or digging for gold, finding a gently used designer dress or quilted purse can really get any fashionistas gears-a-grinding. So, behold my fabulous news to you:
This weekend is the Vintage Fashion Expo in San Francisco. The abundance of vintage treasure will be yours for the taking as vendors line up inside San Francisco’s Concourse Exhibition Center to sell fashions and finds from every era. Everything from timeless chandelier earrings, to the most up-to-the-minute trend of high waisted pants; the possibilities of finding your next favorite vintage piece will be infinite.
Remember to download a discount coupon from the Vintage Fashion Expo website to your Smartphone.
Look who I found checking out the Vintage Fashion Expo in Santa Monica. None other than Miss Rachel Zoe!
(I see so many clothes that I want to rip and wear right out of this picture!!)

The 11th Annual SF Vegetarian Festival – Food, Fashion, Fun
The first Saturday of October, I was able to attend the 11th Annual Vegetarian Festival of San Francisco, which was being held in a community hall of Golden Gate Park. With sunshine, bikes, and natural surroundings, the location was fitting as ever, and the place was packed with people, loads of vegan and vegetarian companies, communities, delicious munchies to sample… and the first ever SF Vegan Fashion Show.
(I interviewed coordinators Karine Brighten and Kara Ashe if you want to read their opinions about veg food and fashion just the click the links on their names above.)
I met New York Times Best Selling Author Rory Freedman: (of “Skinny Bitch”)
saw some fantastic cruelty-free clothes and tasted some of the most DELICIOUS vegan food I have EVER tasted in my life. What stood out the most?
Vegan Thai tea, I loved it so much I went back for seconds. Unfortunately, I lost the contact info and I cannot even remember the name. *Serious sad face..I even contacted head Veggie Fest man to ask if he could forward me their info and he said it was “Trader Joes.” No. No, it wasn’t. In fact TJ’s was on the opposite side of the hall. I know this is a long shot but, if anyone can e-mail me that info that would be fantastic!

Tofurkey Pizza. As my fellow examiner, @Parmie, tweeted “Very dangerous for the figure.”
Vaute Couture. If you read my work on www.GreenByDesign.com, you know she is one of my favorite vegan designers. Her coats were the highlight of the fashion show. as were Pansy Maidens adorable purses. (Interview coming soon!)
ColorCraft and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics worked the runway makeup. They gave me a tube of their red lipgloss. Which is like a stain and a gloss. It’s Soooo addictive. I love it. More to come about that.
And so many more… I’ve actually been so busy that I haven’t been able to back track and look through my treehugger bag of flyers and business cards eversince the event…but I will. So just stay tuned.
I wore my favorite vintage blouse (from Goodwill) and all my best cruelty-free makeup products:
Smashbox Jetset liner in Black, MAC Minerlize in “Deep Dark,” MAC lipstick in “Bare,” and my Pixi foundation stick in No.3 Warm.
I really had a blast. Can’t wait for next years! The healthy 12thy! Woot.

First Post Ever: And so it begins…
Blogging. Who thought up that word?
After a year as the San Francisco Beauty Examiner, I’ve finally decided to allow myself some growth and start my own blog. Why not? It sounded like a fun idea and it seemed like something that I could really, really get into.
And it probably isn’t a suprise to anyone that I’ve made it primarly a beauty site. If you’ve met me before you know that I’m an utter beauty junkie. I am product obsessed and on a constant mission to find only the most fabulous glamifying loot, at the cheapest possible price, and in the least amount of time it takes. But there’s so much more to life than lipstick, isn’t there?
So…What else am I going to put on here, you ask.
Well, everything. All that is of my little hearts’ content. I hope you don’t mind. Makeup, music, books, food, parenting, (I’m a mama, too, ya know!) green living…All kinds of stuff! And reviews…perhaps, lots and lots of reviews. From household cleaning items to the latest best-seller. A quick feature about a local greasy spoon or the latest self-tanner on the market. I think that’s the beauty of these blog-things…You can kinda just do whatever you want.
And the best part? Readers can read whatever they want, too. So I won’t be unabashadly annoying the crap out of everyone with my oversharing, either.
Yes. This is going to be fun.
So hold on to your bloomers and come with me on this new found voyage - my blog. This is the Beauty Bohemian, where I’m going to let you know about unconventional beauty…Simplified.
And well, everything else I can think of.
‘Til next time, fellow beauty bohemian blog babes!
