Review: Loreal Voluminous Mascara

Save your money from buying expensive mascara. If you’re a mom or under a pretty tight budget, the last place you want to be spending $15.00 is on a tube of mascara which you’ll be throwing away or replacing in the next three months in the first place. This find is (at most) $10.99 and does the job, if not just as good, even far better than it’s high-end competitors. During my early stages of my mommy-hood, my son threw my $28 tube of Estee Lauder Definicil down the heater vent, which sent me into a frantic search for a great mascara that won’t send me into the poor house if the incident were ever to repeat itself. Now, the days where I spent high money on my non-existent lashes to make them appear presentable are long gone. Loreal’s Voluminous saves the checkbook and my lashline insecurities! I buy the regular version because it is comfier and easier to take off but the waterproof is necessary for weddings and tear-jerker movie marathons. It also comes in a Carbon Black color which is my personal favorite. For bristle’s more similar to more expensive wands, and if you don’t need the “volume” and are more so looking length… Go with Loreal’s “Lash Artchitect.”

I even Instagrammed this, baby. That’s how much I love it. ;-)

Frugal Friday: Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Carnation and Baby Pink

(L:Carnation, R: Baby Pink)

At under $10 buck a pop, these lipsticks deliver the color and quality of its high end competitors. Creamy, smooth, and with tons of color, there is no denying that Revlon had delivered yet another amazing lipstick that is worth every single one of the pennies it cost. Right now, it’s on sale at Walgreens for buy one get one half off.  So it cost a mere $15 plus tax for two. Fun! What is even more fun is how I was able to get the hubby to buy it for me since it was bought based on a bet bewteen us that I won. (He said Walgreens was that way, I said Walgreens was this way. I was right.) I ended up getting two since it was a deal and the cashier insisted. Lucky me! It is extra moisturizing too making it my choice for this winter weather that has every inch of me peeling with dryness. Not fun.

Above, is Baby Pink and Carnation. Of the two, the Carnation is the one I adore since it resembles closely to one of my favorite green beauty lipsticks of all time – Josie Marin’s Bambolina. (FYI: Josie’s lippies cost $28! This is a good alternate.) The Baby Pink is a little too, obviously, “baby-like” making my naturally tan skin look more brown and very much like an Asian-valley girl.

What I didn’t like so much:

  • No scent. I like my lipsticks with signature scents. That whole stimulate the senses thing is so true. I am addicted to MAC, Maybelline Color Sensational, and NYX lipsticks because of this single attention to detail and characteristics.
  • Slides/smears off easily but is a fine trade for it’s moisturizing properties. Now, in freezing cold January, more than ever.
  • The twist up cases were inconsistent. One tube is stiff/difficult to twist up while the other is easy.
  • the casing is quilted on only two sides. The other side is smooth.  You can see it in the picture above. I got a little OCD about it (where the quilt side had to line with the quilt side, etc. etc.) and now that compulsion is just annoying me. Why not just quilt all around, Revlon?

Moisturizing, colorful, smooth, and rich…Over all, Revlon is always a winner with their lipsticks. I also adore the tastefully black packaging. And if you are iffy about color-matching, I recommend to be sure to buy it at Ulta or CVS, where you can trade it in after trying it in case you don’t  don’t like it. IMO, even if it’s having a fabulous buy one get one deal, Walgreen’s return policy isn’t ideal when trying lipsticks since they don’t take it back if you have already used it.

Have an amazing weekend!

Celestial Seasonings and JASON create the best nighttime moisturizer

My favorite evening herbal tea has showed up, on my doorstep, bottled up in an award-winning creamy form! JASON Everyday Natural Care has teamed up with Celestial Seasonings to create a “Sleepytime” Antioxidant Rich Hand and Body Lotion perfect for pre-sleep pamperers like myself.  It’s a clever, moisture-quenching lovely herbal-tea infused blend of blackberry leaves, hawthorne berries, calming spearmint, and chamomile that’s both, therapeutic and aromatic…

And just like that JASON and Celestial Seasoning’s kicked my current bedside table lotion’s sweet little behind to the curb.

Available at your local Rite Aid. and other leading drugstores in the Bay Area.

First Post Ever: And so it begins…

Blogging. Who thought up that word?

After a year as the San Francisco Beauty Examiner, I’ve finally decided to allow myself some growth and start my own blog. Why not? It sounded like a fun idea and it seemed like something that I could really, really get into.

And it probably isn’t a suprise to anyone that I’ve made it primarly a beauty site. If you’ve met me before you know that I’m an utter beauty junkie. I am product obsessed and on a constant mission to find only the most fabulous glamifying loot, at the cheapest possible price, and in the least amount of time it takes.  But there’s so much more to life than lipstick, isn’t there?

So…What else am I going to put on here, you ask.

Well, everything. All that is of my little hearts’ content. I hope you don’t mind. Makeup, music, books, food, parenting, (I’m a mama, too, ya know!) green living…All kinds of stuff! And reviews…perhaps, lots and lots of reviews. From household cleaning items to the latest best-seller.  A quick feature about a local greasy spoon or the latest self-tanner on the market. I think that’s the beauty of these blog-things…You can kinda just do whatever you want.

And the best part? Readers can read whatever they want, too. So I won’t be unabashadly annoying the crap out of everyone with my oversharing, either.

Yes. This is going to be fun. :)

So hold on to your bloomers and come with me on this new found voyage - my blog. This is the Beauty Bohemian, where I’m going to let you know about unconventional beauty…Simplified.

And well, everything else I can think of.

‘Til next time, fellow beauty bohemian blog babes!
