Recap with The Beauty Bohemian: SF Chefs 2011
One thing’s for sure, this last SF Chefs 2011, I didn’t have enough freaking arms and hands! There were so many things to taste and savor, and so many to people to elbow away, that I felt like I couldn’t get in on 100% of the experience…It was more like a good 90%. This leaves me craving for the next SF Chefs 2012 to get here all the more sooner.
It was my first time going, so I really didn’t know what to expect. The line into the gigantic white tent, set up in the middle of the city, was spanning in a creepy, long, zig-zag of intimidation. The moment doors opened, the crowds headed towards the wine glass station first (everyone gets their own glass) or the nearest chef presenting her/his goodies in single serving artful mini-plates of culinary bliss. Each booth had a blackboard which stated the name of the restaurant and the chef… In my frantic state, I forgot to take pictures of each. Which I should have. But when things calmed down, I got a few good shots with some. Including my favorite, Martin Yan! Whose cooking show inspired me to start learning how to cook. (See the SFChefs 2011 album on facebook page by clicking here.)

Disclaimer: I am in no way a food critic or “hardcore foodie.” I’m simply a girl that likes trying new things, wants to know more about new things, and truly/genuinely, enjoys stuffing my face with all the numminess the blossoming San Francisco food scene has to offer.
Below is my IMO for Best nom-nommers? These are the ones I went back to for seconds (…and maybe more. Ssssh…)
Savor’s Pork Belly – The pork belly was perfectly cooked, crispy and tender, and placed over a bed of crunchy carrot/cucumber salad with a vinegar dressing – perfect for cutting all the indulgent fatty goodness.
Burger Bar’s Cheesecake Donut burger – It’s a donut with a cheesecake in the middle. Need I say more? It was ridiculously good. Like ridiculously good.
Meritage’s Halibut Cheek – Meritage had the buttered veggie mix down perfectly. And the Halibut Cheek was not your average fish, it was melt-in-your mouth scrumptious.
Pizzaria Delfina’s Cucumber Salad – We were raving about how something this simple could make such a delectable impact. No cucumber salad had ever had our mouth’s watering quite like this one.
There was a bit of overkill with the “Prosciutto and Melon” trend. About three different companies showcased their version. My favorite of the three was Columbus –They switched up their melon/meat ticket with a trio sampling that had two additional ways to scarf down their super salty savory delicious meat products – on a buttery cracker and with a dollop of spicy mustard. Overall, I enjoyed every bit of my experience at the Union Square food festivity. It was a totally unforgettable day spending the entire Saturday afternoon surrounded by delicious fare and meeting amazing culinary personalities… I walked out of that tent drunk, fat, and happy. Honestly, aside from a gigantic walk-in closet in San Francisco, is there anything else a local girl could be more content with? I think not.
